Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair.
