Be cunning, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and discovered sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
