Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
