Be smart, play cunning, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard through a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
