Be brilliant, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the right way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he created the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
