Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French relocated down south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A great many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
