Be brilliant, play smart, and learn how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French headed south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
